Local business leader Larry D. Woodard, Chairman of Graham Stanley Advertising, is set to be the Commencement speaker.

Woodard, a resident of White Plains, is seen in high regard due to his expertise in the advertising industry. With more than 30 years of experience, he founded Graham Stanley Advertising in 2010.

Woodard and the companies he has led have received various awards including the O’Toole Agency of the Year Award (two-time winner), the Gold Effie, a Cannes Gold Lion and multiple London International Awards.

Woodard is perhaps best known for his collaboration with Oprah Winfrey and General Motors to provide each member of the Oprah Show’s audience with a new car, 276 vehicles in total. This promotion has been called the “biggest single day promotion in the history of advertising.”

Westchester Community College President Belinda S. Miles will also address commencement guests, and the winners of the SUNY Chancellors Award for Excellence will be acknowledged as well.

Westchester Community College officials have also signed a new transfer agreement with Iona College to allow students who complete their WCC studies to matriculate into Iona College with junior standing.

This agreement will guarantee transfer admission to graduates who maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher with a maximum of 64 credits applied toward the Iona Bachelor’s Degree completion.

“Such agreements truly help our students move on toward real opportunities in the classroom and the workplace as they transition from graduation here to bachelor’s degrees at Iona and subsequent careers in their chosen fields,” said Dr. Belinda S. Miles. “As we seek to simplify and redesign the student experience, this agreement makes it easier for our students to move on in their journeys toward success.”

As a whole, the “two plus two” agreement will simplify the process for students to transition from the first two years of education at WCC to the second two years at Iona College. The agreement will also be honored if WCC students transfer to Iona prior to completing the studies for their associate’s degree.

“We are seeking to knock down barriers,” says Dr. Joseph E. Nyre, President of Iona College. “True economic mobility will be achieved as we move students on a pathway from associate’s degrees to bachelor’s degrees and then into the workforce. This agreement aligns faculty in the two institutions and helps students achieve more while having an impact on the greater community.”
